Jaipur Court Hands Down Life Sentence in Brutal Sibling Murder Case
An Additional Sessions Court in Jaipur has delivered a stern verdict, sentencing a man to life imprisonment for the brutal stabbing deaths of a 16-year-old girl, Poonam, and her brother, Tarun. The court, presided over by Lokendra Singh Shekhawat, ruled that "no leniency could be shown" in this harrowing case rooted in unrequited love, emphasizing that such leniency would send a dangerous message to society.

According to the prosecution presented before Additional Sessions Court No. 5, Metropolitan II, the case originated from an FIR filed by Chetan, the father of the deceased siblings, at the Sadar police station in Jaipur on May 5, 2022. Chetan reported that his family and the accused, Gulshan, resided in close proximity in rented accommodations within the same neighborhood.
The prosecution revealed that Gulshan had been persistently harassing the minor daughter, Poonam, and coercing her into marriage. Three days prior to the fatal attack, he escalated his threats, warning that he would kill her if she refused to comply. On the day of the murder, Chetan and his wife had left for work, leaving only Poonam and Tarun at home.
During this vulnerable period, Gulshan arrived at their residence and initiated a heated argument with Poonam. When Tarun intervened to protect his sister, the dispute intensified rapidly. In a violent outburst, Gulshan stabbed both siblings to death, resulting in a tragic loss of young lives.
Accused Confesses and Surrenders to Police
Following the heinous act, Gulshan proceeded directly to the police station, where he confessed to the murders. He admitted to killing Poonam and Tarun and requested that the authorities collect their bodies.
