Hisar Court Delivers Life Sentence in Canal Water Dispute Murder

In a significant verdict, a Hisar court has sentenced three residents of Rawalwas Kalan village to life imprisonment for a murder that occurred nearly five years ago over a canal water dispute. The judgment brings closure to a case that had sparked considerable tension in the local community.

Court Convicts and Sentences the Accused

District and Sessions Judge Alka Malik found Sarjeet, Satyendra, and Satbir guilty of the murder of Suresh and awarded them life imprisonment. The court also imposed a substantial fine of Rs 1 lakh on each of the convicts, underscoring the severity of the crime.

Background of the Case and Investigation

According to the prosecution, the case was registered in 2021 at the Hisar Sadar police station. The investigation revealed that Sarjeet had a long-standing dispute with Suresh concerning the distribution of canal water among family members. This enmity allegedly escalated over time, culminating in a violent attack where the accused assaulted Suresh with the clear intention to kill.

Suresh sustained grievous injuries during the assault and was promptly rushed to a hospital by his family members. Despite medical efforts, he later succumbed to his injuries, leading to heightened tensions in Rawalwas Kalan village at the time of the incident.

Legal Proceedings and Final Verdict

Police acted swiftly, arresting all three accused shortly after the incident and placing them in judicial custody. The legal process culminated on February 10, when the court found the accused guilty. On Tuesday, the final sentencing was delivered, with the court imposing life imprisonment and the aforementioned fines.

This verdict highlights the judiciary's firm stance against violent crimes stemming from personal disputes, particularly in rural areas where such conflicts can have devastating consequences. The case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of resolving disagreements through legal and peaceful means.
