Lucknow Police Launches Major Drive Against Banned Chinese Kite String

Acting on the explicit directions of Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, the Lucknow Police has significantly intensified its crackdown on the sale, storage, and use of prohibited Chinese kite string, known as manjha. This extensive preventive operation was launched across the city in response to recent tragic and severe accidents involving the dangerous material.

Widespread Inspections Yield No Chinese Manjha

Joint Commissioner of Police (Law and Order) Babloo Kumar reported that police teams conducted thorough inspections at more than 700 shops, godowns, and other establishments selling kite-flying supplies. Despite the large-scale checking drive, no Chinese manjha was discovered at any location. However, authorities issued three challans for operating shops illegally, demonstrating a zero-tolerance approach to violations.

Fatal Accident Prompts FIR and Preventive Action

In a tragic incident that underscored the urgency of the crackdown, a 34-year-old motorcyclist named Mohammed Shoaib bled to death after his throat was slashed by a sharp nylon kite string on the Haiderganj overbridge in Khala Bazar. An FIR has been registered at the Bazarkhala police station in connection with this case. Police emphasized that their exercise is preventive, aiming to discourage illegal activities before they result in loss of life.

Focus on High-Risk Areas and Sustained Monitoring

Western Lucknow was identified as a major focus area due to past incidents. Neighborhoods including Raja Bazaar, Ganeshganj, and Kakori township witnessed intensified scrutiny, with police teams conducting surprise inspections and maintaining sustained monitoring. Senior police officers are personally overseeing the enforcement campaign, with daily reviews at the Station House Officer level to ensure accountability and strict adherence to instructions.

Continued Efforts to Ensure Public Safety

JCP Babloo Kumar confirmed that the special drive will persist in the coming days, reflecting a committed effort to eradicate the threat posed by banned kite strings. This proactive stance by the Lucknow Police highlights a broader initiative to enhance public safety and prevent further accidents linked to unsafe kite-flying practices.
