In a shocking incident that has rattled the community, a 67-year-old newspaper hawker was brutally assaulted and robbed by two masked snatchers in the New Shimlapuri area of Ludhiana early on Thursday morning. The victim, identified as Vinod, was attacked while performing his daily routine, leaving him with severe injuries that required immediate surgical intervention.

According to his son, Akhil, Vinod was on his way to Ghanta Ghar on his scooter to collect newspapers as part of his regular morning duties. The incident unfolded when he reached Shivpuri Chowk, where two masked men on a motorcycle began following him closely. Akhil recounted that his father, sensing danger, initially took cover behind a trolley in an attempt to evade the pursuers and continue his journey.
However, the assailants intercepted him near Tutiyan Wala Mandir in the Daresi area, where the situation escalated violently. The attackers forcefully pushed Vinod off his scooter, subjected him to repeated kicks, and stabbed him with a sharp-edged weapon. The assault left him unconscious on the ground, at which point the accused allegedly snatched approximately Rs 4,000 in cash and his mobile phone before fleeing the scene on their motorcycle.
Immediate Aftermath and Hospitalization
Sources indicate that a passerby came to the aid of the injured man, helping him contact his family. His relatives rushed him to DMC Hospital, where medical professionals diagnosed him with severe head and internal injuries. Akhil emphasized that his father required surgery due to the extent of the trauma, highlighting the brutality of the attack.
