Motorcyclist Fatally Struck by Speeding Bus in Madhubani, Sparking Highway Blockade
A tragic road accident in Madhubani district claimed the life of a young motorcyclist on Monday afternoon, leading to widespread protests and significant traffic disruptions. The incident occurred on the Madhubani–Rampatti National Highway near Panchwati Chowk at Ranti village, highlighting ongoing road safety concerns in the region.
Details of the Fatal Collision
The deceased has been identified as Om Prakash Sahu, a 25-year-old resident of Kamla Bari (Lohat) under the Pandaul police station. According to reports, Sahu had visited Madhubani for a medical consultation and was returning home when the accident unfolded. Just after crossing the railway line, a high-speed bus approaching from behind collided with his motorcycle. The impact caused Sahu to fall onto the road, where he was subsequently run over by the bus, resulting in his immediate death at the scene.
Aftermath and Public Outrage
Following the collision, the bus driver fled the area, abandoning the vehicle. However, local residents managed to apprehend the bus helper. Enraged by the incident and the driver's escape, the community took to the streets in protest. They blocked the National Highway by placing Sahu's body on the road, demanding justice and improved safety measures. This blockade led to a complete halt in traffic movement from approximately 3 pm onwards.
Traffic Disruption and Police Response
Traffic Deputy Superintendent of Police Sujit Kumar reported that the protest caused severe congestion, with long queues of vehicles stretching from Railway crossing (13) to Ranti Chowk. To address the situation, police teams from Town and Rajnagar stations were deployed to clear the jam and facilitate the removal of the body for postmortem examination. Authorities are actively investigating the accident and searching for the absconding driver.
