In a disturbing incident that has shocked the local community, Nagaroor police in Thiruvananthapuram, Kerala, arrested a 34-year-old man on Wednesday for allegedly sexually assaulting a 23-year-old woman during the Shivaratri festival at a temple in Koduvazhannoor.

Details of the Alleged Assault

The survivor, accompanied by her family, had arrived at the temple premises around 8:30 PM to watch a traditional Kakkarissi play as part of the festival celebrations. According to police reports, the accused, a labourer from Velallalur who was known to the woman, allegedly lured her away from the crowd around 11:30 PM.

The suspect reportedly deceived the woman by offering to buy her tea and bangles, leading her to an unoccupied house belonging to his wife located near the temple. It was there that he allegedly sexually assaulted her.

Family Intervention and Police Action

When the woman failed to return after an extended period, her concerned family members initiated a search. During their efforts, they observed a man fleeing from a nearby house. Upon investigating, they discovered the survivor inside the property.

The family immediately approached Nagaroor police and filed a formal complaint. Law enforcement officials promptly recorded the survivor's detailed statement and registered a case against the accused.

A police source stated, "The accused was questioned in detail following the arrest." The suspect has been charged under Section 63 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita for rape, reflecting the serious nature of the allegations.
