58-Year-Old Man Arrested in Trichy Under POCSO Act for Allegedly Molesting 7-Year-Old Relative

A 58-year-old man has been arrested in Trichy under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act for allegedly molesting a seven-year-old relative girl. The incident took place on January 22, when the child, a Class II student, was playing at the accused's house along with his grandchildren.

Details of the Alleged Incident

According to police reports, the accused, hailing from Khajapettai in Trichy, is related to the survivor's family and lives in the same locality. While the girl was playing with his grandchildren, the man allegedly misbehaved with her in a manner that constitutes molestation under the POCSO Act.

About ten days after the incident, the girl confided in her mother about what had happened. Shocked by the disclosure, the family immediately approached the authorities to file a complaint.

Police Action and Legal Proceedings

A case was registered at the Fort All Women Police Station in Trichy, and an investigation began on Monday based on the complaint from the survivor's mother. Police swiftly arrested the accused and charged him under Sections 9(m), 9(n), and 10 of the POCSO Act, which pertain to aggravated sexual assault and related offenses against children.

The accused was produced before a magistrate and has been remanded to judicial custody. The investigation is currently ongoing, with authorities working to gather further evidence and ensure justice is served in this sensitive case.

Protection of Survivor's Identity

In line with legal protocols and ethical reporting standards, the identity of the accused has not been disclosed to protect the survivor's privacy and well-being. This measure is crucial in such cases to prevent any additional trauma to the child and her family.

The arrest highlights the importance of vigilance and prompt action in cases of child abuse, as well as the role of the POCSO Act in safeguarding minors from sexual offenses. Authorities have urged the public to report any such incidents immediately to help prevent further crimes and ensure the safety of children in the community.
