Man Assaulted in Bihar's Madhubani on Suspicion of Being Bangladeshi
Man beaten in Bihar over Bangladeshi suspicion

A shocking incident of mob violence has been reported from Bihar's Madhubani district, where a man was brutally assaulted after being wrongly suspected of being an illegal immigrant from Bangladesh. The police have taken swift action, registering a case of attempt to murder against the perpetrators.

Viral Video Triggers Police Action

The matter came to light after a video of the assault went viral on various social media platforms. The footage showed two youths mercilessly beating the victim under the presumption that he was a Bangladeshi national residing illegally in India. The Madhubani police's social media cell immediately initiated an investigation upon seeing the video.

Madhubani Superintendent of Police Yogendra Kumar stated on Friday, January 3, 2026, that the incident was traced to the Chakda area under the Rajnagar police station jurisdiction. The police identified the two individuals seen in the video assaulting the man. Both suspects are residents of Rajnagar itself.

Victim and Legal Proceedings

The victim, who works as a mason, is a resident of Birpur in the neighbouring Supaul district. This detail confirms he is an Indian citizen from Bihar, negating the false suspicion that led to the attack.

Following the investigation, the police have lodged a formal case under the stringent section dealing with attempt to murder (Section 307 IPC). SP Yogendra Kumar confirmed that raids are currently underway to apprehend both accused individuals. He issued a stern warning, asserting that strict action will be taken against those spreading such rumours and making such videos viral.

Context and Official Stance

This incident highlights the dangerous consequences of rumours and vigilante justice based on ethnic or national origin suspicions. The police response underscores a zero-tolerance policy towards such acts of violence and the misuse of social media to spread hate and instigate attacks.

The authorities have emphasized that law enforcement will deal firmly with both the physical perpetrators of violence and those who digitally amplify such content, aiming to curb the cycle of misinformation and targeted assaults.
