Police in Panchkula, Haryana, have made a significant arrest in a case of cyber fraud, apprehending a man accused of cheating a woman out of a substantial sum of money by falsely promising to secure a government job for her son.
The Deceptive Promise and Financial Loss
The case came to light when a woman, a resident of Sector 12 in Panchkula, filed a formal complaint with the police. She stated that the accused, identified as Ravinder Singh, who hails from Raipur Rani, had approached her with an offer that seemed too good to be true. Singh allegedly promised to use his influence and contacts to get her son a coveted position in a government department.
Trusting his assurances, the woman handed over a total of Rs 5 lakh to the accused. The money was given in multiple instalments over a period of time, as Singh kept providing updates and maintaining the facade of the recruitment process being underway. However, as time passed and no job materialized, the woman grew suspicious. Her doubts were confirmed when Singh began avoiding her calls and eventually cut off all communication.
Police Action and Recovery of Assets
After being cheated of her hard-earned money, the victim approached the authorities. Acting swiftly on her complaint, a police team led by Sub-Inspector Rajesh Kumar registered a case and initiated an investigation. Their efforts led to the successful arrest of the accused, Ravinder Singh.
Following his arrest, the police conducted searches and managed to recover important items linked to the crime. Rs 21,500 in cash was seized from Singh's possession. More significantly, investigators also impounded a Hyundai i20 car that is believed to have been purchased using the proceeds of this fraudulent activity. The recovery of the vehicle marks a crucial step in providing some restitution to the victim.

The Panchkula police have registered a case against Ravinder Singh under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code pertaining to cheating and fraud.
