French Teacher Assaulted in Bandra, Scrap Dealer Arrested
The Khar police have made a significant arrest in a disturbing case that occurred in the Bandra area of Mumbai. Late on Saturday, November 16, 2025, they arrested a man identified as Sunil Waghela. The accused, a scrap dealer from Dharavi, is alleged to have molested a 27-year-old French national.
The Incident: A Terrifying Walk Home
The traumatic event took place shortly after midnight on November 8, 2025. According to police officials, the victim, a French teacher who had arrived in India just a month prior, was walking back to her residence in Bandra. She was merely 200 metres away from her home when the accused, Sunil Waghela, spotted her walking alone.
Waghela approached her on a motorcycle, stopped near her, and then allegedly touched her inappropriately. The woman, terrified, immediately screamed for help. Her courageous act caused the assailant to panic, and he fled the scene on his vehicle.
Aftermath and Police Investigation
The official report states that the victim was severely traumatized by the assault. The psychological impact was so profound that she did not leave her home for two days following the incident. After this period, she confided in a friend, who provided crucial support and accompanied her to approach the police.
Based on her complaint, a formal case was registered on Friday, November 15, under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The Khar police investigation team immediately sprang into action. They meticulously reviewed footage from several CCTV cameras in the vicinity, which allowed them to trace the accused's movements towards the Khar Danda area.
Leveraging this technical evidence, the police successfully identified Waghela and subsequently arrested him from his residence in Dharavi. During questioning at the police station, the accused allegedly confessed to the crime. He was then formally arrested and produced before a local court.
A Case Under the New Legal Framework
This case is notable for being registered under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), which has replaced the Indian Penal Code. The swift identification and arrest of the accused, within a week of the incident, demonstrate the application of both traditional policing and modern technical surveillance in ensuring justice.
