A deeply disturbing case from China has sent shockwaves through the public, revealing a father's monstrous plot to murder his own child for financial gain. The incident, which occurred in 2020, involved a man identified as Zhang, who conspired to kill his seven-year-old son to claim a massive insurance payout.
A Plan Forged in Greed and Desperation
According to reports, Zhang was embroiled in constant marital disputes with his wife over severe money problems and allegations of an affair. In a state of anger and distress, he devised a horrific plan. He contacted his cousin, a truck driver, to stage a fatal accident. The scheme was opportunistic; the truck's owner had taken out two substantial insurance policies, which Zhang believed could be exploited.
The cold-blooded plan was executed in October 2020. Zhang parked his car on a roadside with his young son inside. He then instructed the boy to stand near the vehicle. At that precise moment, the cousin drove the truck directly into the parked car, killing the child instantly.
In a grotesque display of deception, Zhang pretended to be heartbroken when the police arrived, crying while holding his son's lifeless body. The cousin initially told officers he had been distracted by his phone and failed to see the car, also hiding the fact that they were related.
The Payout and the Unraveling Conspiracy
Months after the staged accident, Zhang successfully collected 180,000 yuan (nearly ₹22.5 lakh) in insurance compensation. He then shared 30,000 yuan (₹3.75 lakh) of this blood money with his cousin as payment for his role in the murder.
The cousin initially received a suspended sentence for the accident and was ordered to compensate the family a staggering one million yuan (₹1.25 crore), most of which was to be covered by the insurer. The total compensation involved was close to ₹1.5 crore.
The plot, however, began to unravel due to an unforeseen twist. It was discovered that the cousin had forged his transport licence and was not legally certified to drive the truck. As a result, the insurance company refused to pay the compensation. The court then directed the truck owner, a man named Luo, to pay the compensation to the family instead.
Justice Served with the Ultimate Penalty
Shocked by this verdict, Luo contacted the police and revealed that another man, Ye, had known about Zhang's murderous plan all along but had stayed silent out of fear. This tip-off prompted a deeper police investigation, which eventually exposed the entire conspiracy.
Both Zhang and his cousin were arrested for the premeditated murder of the innocent child. The cousin was later sentenced to death with a two-year reprieve, meaning his execution is suspended for two years. Zhang also received the death penalty. He appealed for a lighter sentence, but the outcome of his appeal remains unknown, leaving a final chapter of this tragic tale yet to be written.
