UP STF Arrests Man for Impersonating Intelligence Bureau Deputy Director in Bijnor

In a significant crackdown on impersonation and corruption, the Uttar Pradesh Special Task Force (STF) has arrested a man in Bijnor for allegedly posing as a deputy director of the Intelligence Bureau (IB). The accused, identified as Manoj Kumar, is charged with using this fraudulent identity to exert pressure on officials across various government departments to facilitate personal and public-related work through illicit means, according to police statements released on Saturday.

Joint Operation Leads to Arrest Near Dhampur

The arrest occurred around 8:30 PM on Friday during a meticulously planned joint operation conducted by the STF and local police. The operation targeted an area near Gulmohar Resort in Saket Vihar Colony, Dhampur, where Kumar was apprehended. Manoj Kumar is a resident of Mohammadpur Trilok village, which falls under the jurisdiction of the Nagina Dehat police station in Bijnor district.

Additional Superintendent of Police (ASP) Brijesh Kumar Singh, from the STF's Meerut field unit, provided detailed insights into the operation. He revealed that a specialized team, led by Inspector Ravindra Kumar, had been actively gathering intelligence in the region based on prior inputs. "Acting on credible information, the team successfully arrested Kumar, who was residing in a rented accommodation within Saket Vihar Colony," Singh stated.

Evidence Recovered and Background of the Accused

During the arrest, authorities seized crucial evidence from Kumar's possession, including two mobile phones, a counterfeit identity card falsely identifying him as an IB deputy director, and a white car. A preliminary investigation has uncovered that Kumar, who holds an MSc degree, operates a pharmacy named Apollo Medical Agency. Notably, this business is licensed under his wife's name, adding a layer of complexity to his alleged activities.

"He allegedly misled individuals in his village and surrounding areas by claiming to be posted as a deputy director in the Intelligence Bureau based in Delhi," ASP Singh elaborated. "To bolster this deception, he fabricated a fake identity card to support his fraudulent assertions."

Extortion and Manipulation of Government Officials

Utilizing this forged identity, Kumar is accused of systematically contacting officials from multiple key departments, including the police, education, revenue, and judicial sectors, as well as public representatives. His modus operandi involved extorting money under the pretense of expediting official work through his purported high-ranking position.

"Kumar allegedly exploited his fake credentials to manipulate and coerce officials, promising to facilitate various tasks in exchange for monetary gains," the ASP added, highlighting the serious nature of the charges. This case underscores ongoing concerns about impersonation and corruption within government frameworks, prompting calls for enhanced vigilance and stricter verification processes to prevent such fraudulent activities in the future.
