Thanjavur Man Robbed at Knifepoint by Auto Driver and Woman in Coimbatore

A shocking incident of robbery at knifepoint has been reported in Coimbatore, where a man from Thanjavur fell victim to an auto driver and a woman accomplice. The crime occurred on Monday morning, leaving the victim traumatized and local authorities on high alert.

Details of the Robbery Incident

According to police reports, the victim, identified as S Anbarasan, aged 38, had traveled to Coimbatore to participate in Mahashivaratri celebrations on Sunday. After the festivities, he was preparing to return home when the unfortunate event unfolded.

On Monday morning, Anbarasan disembarked from a bus at the Gandhipuram bus stand and was waiting for transportation to the railway station. An autorickshaw passing by stopped, and the driver offered to drop him at his destination. However, a woman was already seated inside the vehicle.

When Anbarasan questioned her presence, the driver assured him that she would get off along the way. This explanation seemed plausible at the time, leading Anbarasan to board the auto.

How the Robbery Was Executed

The driver deviated from the intended route, instead heading to an isolated area. Once in this secluded spot, both the driver and the woman threatened Anbarasan with a knife. In a terrifying confrontation, they forcibly took his mobile phone and 13,000 rupees in cash before fleeing the scene.

A police officer involved in the case stated, "The driver did not head to the railway station. He instead stopped the auto in an isolated area on the way. The driver and the woman then threatened Anbarasan at knifepoint and robbed him of his mobile phone and 13,000 in cash, and fled."

Police Response and Investigation

After the robbery, Anbarasan managed to walk to the Variety Hall Road police station, where he immediately filed a formal complaint. Authorities have registered a case based on his account and have launched a thorough investigation to trace the accused individuals.

The police are currently reviewing CCTV footage from the area and gathering witness statements to identify the auto driver and the woman involved. This incident highlights concerns about passenger safety in public transportation and has prompted calls for increased vigilance.

Local residents and visitors are advised to exercise caution when using autorickshaws, especially in unfamiliar areas. The investigation remains ongoing, with police working diligently to apprehend the perpetrators and ensure justice for the victim.
