The incident unfolded during routine patrols within the jurisdiction of the Kavoor police station. Officers, while traveling from Kulur towards Bangrakulur via Kuloor, observed an individual behaving in a highly suspicious manner. The man was standing beside a scooter on the left side of the road, prompting immediate police attention.
When authorities approached him for questioning, the suspect attempted to flee the scene. However, police personnel acted swiftly, detaining him before he could escape. This quick response prevented a potential drug deal and led to a major seizure.
Accused Confesses to Drug Possession and Intent to Sell
The arrested individual has been identified as Mohammed Rayees, also known as Mohammed Rayees Sheikh, a 28-year-old resident of Bhatkal in Uttara Kannada district. During interrogation, he allegedly admitted to being in illegal possession of narcotic substances.
Rayees confessed that he was waiting to sell the drugs to a contact in Mangaluru, acting on instructions from an individual named Suhan from Kundapur. This revelation highlights the organized nature of the drug trade in the region and underscores ongoing efforts to dismantle such networks.
Detailed Inventory of Seized Narcotics and Items
Upon thorough inspection, police recovered the drugs from the storage compartment of the scooter. The seizure included:
- 560 grams of ganja, comprising flowers, stems, buds, and seeds, with an estimated market value of Rs 10,000.
- 384 grams of MDMA, a synthetic party drug, valued at approximately Rs 11.5 lakh, making it the bulk of the haul's worth.
In addition to the narcotics, authorities confiscated a mobile phone and the scooter used by the accused. These items are expected to provide crucial evidence in the investigation, potentially leading to further arrests and insights into the drug supply chain.
