Mangaluru Police Crack Down on Illegal MDMA Trafficking Network in Puttur Region
In a significant operation, the Puttur Rural police have successfully busted an extensive illegal MDMA drug trafficking network that was operating across multiple areas in the region. The crackdown led to the arrest of four individuals, including a key supplier from Bantwal, marking a major victory in the fight against narcotics in Karnataka.
Details of the Arrests and Seizures
The accused have been identified as Mohammed Harshad, 33, Mohammed Aareesh, 31, and Ibrahim Ashraf alias Roja Ashraf, 46, all residents of Puttur. Additionally, Musthafa, 46, from Bantwal, was apprehended for his role as the supplier of MDMA to the other accused. The police action targeted the network's operations in Bettampady, Irde, Renja, and Arlapadavu, highlighting the widespread nature of this illicit activity.
From the arrested individuals, law enforcement officials seized a substantial amount of contraband and assets. This included approximately 6.4 grams of MDMA, with an estimated street value of around Rs 50,000, along with 0.9 grams of ganja. In addition to the drugs, the police confiscated mobile phones and two cars that were allegedly used in the commission of the offences. Other materials related to the trafficking operation were also recovered, bringing the total estimated value of the seized items to a staggering Rs 6.5 lakh.
Legal Actions and Investigation
A case has been formally registered at the Puttur Rural police station under relevant sections of the law. The charges include Sections 8(c) and 21(b) of the NDPS Act, which pertain to the prohibition and control of narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances, as well as Section 25(1B)(B) of the Arms Act, indicating possible involvement with illegal weapons. The investigation was meticulously carried out under the leadership of Police Sub-Inspector Gunapal J., whose efforts were instrumental in uncovering and dismantling this dangerous network.
