Medical Students Arrested for Alleged Gold Chain Snatching in Uttarakhand

Pradeep Rawat, the in-charge of Jauljabi police station, provided a detailed account of the events. "Mamta Devi lodged an FIR stating that she encountered the two accused on her way. They allegedly told her that their mobile network was not working and requested to use her phone. Suddenly, Sunny grabbed her while Himani snatched two gold chains from her neck, and the duo fled the spot," Rawat explained.
Investigations revealed that Himani Bora had come to Toli village to visit her grandmother, and Sunny Singh had accompanied her. After allegedly committing the crime, the two attempted to leave the area on a motorcycle, but their escape was short-lived.

Acting swiftly on the complaint, police personnel set up a barricade at the Gori river bridge to intercept the suspects. "On Wednesday, when the two accused were seen approaching the bridge on a bike, our personnel stopped them for questioning. Mamta Devi was called to the spot, and she identified both suspects. They were immediately taken into custody, and the stolen gold chains were recovered from their possession," stated Rawat.
The police have registered a case under specific sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). "A case has been registered under BNS sections 304(3), which pertains to snatching, and 317, which deals with dishonestly receiving stolen property," Rawat added, highlighting the legal actions being taken against the accused.
