Infant Stolen by Aunt in Chatra Recovered After Week-Long Search
Missing Chatra Infant Found, Aunt Arrested for Kidnapping

In a shocking incident from Jharkhand's Chatra district, a six-month-old infant boy who had been missing for over a week was finally recovered by police on Monday. The alleged kidnapper, identified as the child's own aunt, has been arrested.

The Night the Child Went Missing

The distressing event unfolded at Kadhe village under the Manghaniya panchayat. On the night of December 9, Saroj Kumari, the mother of twin boys, woke up to feed her infants. To her horror, she discovered one of her six-month-old sons was missing from her bedside.

An immediate alarm was raised. Family members and local villagers launched a frantic search throughout the night, scouring the house and the entire village. However, their efforts proved futile, and the child could not be located.

Police Investigation Leads to Aunt

On December 10, Saroj Kumari filed a formal First Information Report (FIR) with the Lawalong police. From the beginning, family members expressed suspicion that someone within the family circle might be involved in the disappearance.

Acting on this lead, police investigators traced the child's whereabouts. Their probe revealed that the infant had been taken by his aunt, Sugiya Devi. She had allegedly stolen the boy and taken him to her parental home in Meghabar village, which falls under the jurisdiction of Kunda police.

Safe Recovery and Arrest

Officer in-charge Prashant Mitra from Meghabar village confirmed that a raid was conducted on Sugiya Devi's paternal home. The operation was a success, and the infant was recovered safely. Following the recovery, the police promptly placed Sugiya Devi under arrest.

During questioning, the accused aunt presented a startling claim. She stated that the child's mother, Saroj, had previously promised to give one of her twin boys to her. Sugiya Devi alleged that when Saroj later refused to honour this promise, she took matters into her own hands and abducted the child.

The police investigation is ongoing to verify all claims and motives behind this family tragedy. The infant has since been reunited with his relieved mother and family.
