Dense Fog Causes Fatal Pile-Up in Moga, 1 Dead & 5 Injured
Moga Road Accident: 1 Dead, 5 Hurt in Foggy Pile-Up

Dense Fog Leads to Tragic Chain Collision on Moga Road

A deadly combination of dense fog and poor visibility resulted in a fatal multi-vehicle accident in Punjab's Moga district on Saturday. The incident claimed the life of a 55-year-old biker and left five other individuals injured.

The tragedy unfolded on the busy Kot Ise Khan–Moga road near a weighbridge. According to police reports, the chain reaction began when a milk van started reversing on the fog-enshrouded highway.

Sequence of a Tragedy: How the Pile-Up Happened

Police pieced together the events that led to the fatal crash. A motorcyclist, later identified as Nirmal Singh (55), was approaching from the Kot Ise Khan side. The severely reduced visibility caused by the dense fog meant he spotted the reversing milk van too late to avoid it.

Simultaneously, a truck following closely behind the motorcycle slammed its brakes upon seeing the hazard. However, it was unable to stop in time and rammed into the two-wheeler. This impact tragically crushed the rider between the two heavy vehicles. Nirmal Singh succumbed to his injuries on the spot.

The chaos did not end there. Moments after the initial collision, a car ploughed into the stationary truck. This secondary impact injured all four occupants of the car as well as the truck driver, bringing the total number of injured to five.

Rescue Efforts and Road Clearance

Local residents rushed to the accident site upon hearing the crash. They faced a challenging task extricating the truck driver from his mangled vehicle. The severity of the pile-up necessitated a major clearance operation.

Two cranes were deployed to the location to disentangle the truck and the milk van. The recovery operation took considerable time, disrupting traffic on the route until the wreckage was cleared and the road reopened.

The accident has once again highlighted the extreme dangers of driving during dense fog conditions in North India, particularly on highways where high speeds are common. Authorities continue to advise extreme caution, reduced speed, and the use of fog lights when visibility drops.
