Major Breakthrough in Mohali Youth Murder Case: Seven Arrested, Fifteen Questioned
In a significant development in the Phase-11 youth murder case, the Mohali police have made substantial progress by arresting seven suspects, which includes two juveniles. Additionally, a total of 15 more suspects have been rounded up for intensive questioning as part of the ongoing investigation into this tragic incident.
Police Action and Legal Proceedings
Senior Superintendent of Police Harmandeep Singh Hans confirmed that the adult suspects were produced before a local court on Tuesday. The court has remanded them to police custody to facilitate further interrogation and gather crucial evidence. Superintendent of Police (Investigation) Saurav Jindal identified the main accused as Adarsh Kumar alias Billa, aged 23. The two juveniles, whose ages range between 16 and 17 years, were presented before the Juvenile Justice Board. Following the proceedings, they were sent to a juvenile reformatory home for rehabilitation and legal processing.
Details of the Fatal Incident
According to police reports, the incident occurred on the intervening night of February 13 and 14. The victim, Gursewak Singh Bhangu, aged 27, was returning after paying obeisance at a temple in Phase 11. During his journey, he noticed two groups of youths engaged in a heated altercation. The dispute reportedly stemmed from a petty issue related to intoxication, escalating into a violent confrontation.
Witnessing the clash, Gursewak intervened in an attempt to pacify the groups and prevent further escalation. Unfortunately, during the scuffle, one of the accused allegedly attacked him with a sharp-edged weapon. Gursewak sustained critical injuries and was immediately rushed to a private hospital. Despite medical efforts, he succumbed to his injuries on Monday morning, marking a devastating loss for his family and community.
Post-Mortem Findings and Legal Enhancements
The post-mortem examination revealed that the sharp-edged weapon had ruptured the victim's liver. Police detailed that the attacker allegedly twisted the weapon after stabbing and then pulled it out, causing extensive internal bleeding that proved fatal. Initially, a case was registered at the Phase-11 police station under relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) for attempt to murder.
Following Gursewak's death, the charges were enhanced to murder, and the arrested accused were formally named in the First Information Report (FIR). This legal escalation underscores the severity of the crime and the police's commitment to ensuring justice.

Police authorities have emphasized that strict action will be taken against other anti-social elements in the area to maintain law and order.
