According to police reports, Chandralekha and her husband, M Sellapandian, 26, from Manaparai in Trichy district, had married a few years ago after a love affair. Both were working as daily wage laborers in Chennai at the time. The couple's relationship had been strained, leading to frequent arguments over minor issues.

On Saturday, Chandralekha arrived at her grandmother's house in Kottamedu village with her infant daughter. During her stay, she engaged in a heated argument with her husband over the phone, reportedly concerning trivial matters. This confrontation escalated her emotional distress, pushing her to a breaking point.

The Fatal Act and Rescue Efforts

In a fit of rage and despair, Chandralekha took her baby to a nearby farmland. There, in a tragic turn of events, she threw the seven-month-old girl into a well and subsequently jumped in herself, intending to end her life. Fortunately, passersby witnessed the incident and quickly intervened, rescuing both the woman and the baby from the well.

Despite the timely rescue, the infant could not be saved and was pronounced dead. Chandralekha, however, survived the suicide attempt and was taken into custody by the authorities for medical treatment and investigation.
