Mumbai Train Murder Accused Re-enacts Crime Scene as Police Recover Weapon
In a significant development in the shocking murder case that unfolded inside a Mumbai local train, the accused, 27-year-old Omkar Shinde, was brought back to the scene of the crime for a detailed re-enactment on Wednesday. The Government Railway Police (GRP) orchestrated this crucial step as part of their intensive investigation into the stabbing of college lecturer Alok Kumar Singh.
Re-enactment at Malad Railway Station
The GRP team from Borivli escorted Shinde to Malad railway station on Wednesday afternoon, where he meticulously retraced his steps following the fatal altercation. The accused guided investigators along the foot overbridge that he used to flee after committing the crime. This procedural re-enactment serves a dual purpose: to gather additional forensic evidence and to clarify the precise sequence of events that culminated in the violent stabbing incident.
Recovery of the Murder Weapon
In a parallel breakthrough, police officials successfully recovered the murder weapon on the same day. Shinde had previously confessed to discarding the weapon—a small pair of tongs typically used for handling jewels—somewhere within the railway premises at Malad station after the attack. Following his directions, investigators located the implement, which will now undergo comprehensive forensic analysis.
If forensic tests confirm the presence of the victim's blood on the weapon, it will constitute pivotal evidence for the prosecution, significantly strengthening the case against Shinde. The recovery marks a critical advancement in the police's efforts to build a watertight legal argument.
Building a Comprehensive Case
Police are leaving no stone unturned in their quest for justice. They have already recorded the statement of Sudhir Kumar Trivedi, a colleague of the victim who was traveling alongside him and witnessed the stabbing firsthand. Additionally, the statement of station master Mohammad Nasarullah Ansari, who provided immediate assistance to Singh on the platform, has been documented.
"We will also look for other independent witnesses among commuters who were traveling in the same compartment at the time," revealed a senior police officer involved in the investigation. This multi-pronged approach aims to corroborate evidence and establish a clear narrative of the events.
Background of the Tragic Incident
The altercation that led to this tragedy occurred on Saturday evening around 5:45 PM. Shinde is accused of stabbing 33-year-old Alok Kumar Singh, a lecturer at Narsee Monjee College in Vile Parle, in the abdomen following a heated argument over alighting at Malad station. Singh was returning home when the confrontation escalated into violence.
During interrogation, Shinde claimed that his intention was not to kill but merely to injure Singh following their dispute. He alleged that someone in the crowd pulled his hair during the commotion, and he presumed it was Singh since they were already bickering. Shinde further stated that he felt humiliated after being shoved in front of female commuters traveling in the same compartment, which may have contributed to the escalation.
The investigation continues as authorities piece together this complex case, balancing forensic evidence with witness testimonies to ensure justice is served for the victim and his family.
