The city of Dhanbad is set to observe a poignant and spiritually charged ceremony to commemorate the 35th death anniversary of its brave son, IPS officer Randhir Verma. The event, scheduled for January 3, will be held at the Randhir Verma Chowk in Dhanbad, transforming the space into a ground for remembrance and reverence.
A Legacy of Supreme Sacrifice
The commemorative program is dedicated to honoring the ultimate sacrifice made by Officer Verma, who laid down his life in the line of duty. In 1991, he was martyred while courageously confronting Khalistani terrorists who had carried out a bank robbery at the Bank of India branch in Hirapur, Dhanbad. Displaying exceptional bravery, Verma engaged the terrorists in a fierce encounter. Reports confirm that he managed to neutralize two terrorists using his service pistol before succumbing to his injuries and attaining martyrdom.
Sufi Melodies for a Hero's Soul
The centerpiece of this year's tribute ceremony will be a special and moving musical presentation. The honor of performing this tribute falls to the renowned Sufi singer and Padma Shri awardee, Bharti Bandhu. Known for his powerful, distinctive, and deeply emotive vocal renditions, Bandhu's performance is expected to provide a spiritually uplifting experience for all attendees. His music aims to connect the audience with the valor and spirit of the martyred officer, offering solace and inspiration through melody.
A City Remembers Its Protector
This annual observance serves as a powerful reminder of the risks faced by law enforcement officers in their duty to protect citizens. The program at Randhir Verma Chowk is more than just a ceremony; it is a community's pledge to never forget its heroes. It reinforces the values of courage, duty, and sacrifice that Officer Verma embodied. The event allows the people of Dhanbad and beyond to collectively reflect on the price of peace and security, ensuring that the story of IPS Randhir Verma's bravery continues to inspire future generations.
