In a significant crackdown, the City Crime Branch (CCB) sleuths of Mysuru city police have successfully uncovered an extensive illegal drug supply network. The operation led to the arrest of two accused individuals from Bengaluru and the confiscation of substantial quantities of prohibited substances, including MDMA valued at Rs 5.1 lakh and marijuana worth Rs 1.3 lakh.
Details of the Seizure and Arrests
The seized items comprise 51 grams and 83 millilitres of MDMA, along with 2.2 kilograms of marijuana. Additionally, a four-wheeler valued at Rs 3 lakh, which was used for transporting the drugs, has been impounded by the authorities. The police officially disclosed these details on Tuesday, highlighting the scale of the operation.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Pramod R, aged 27, and Vikas M, aged 23, both residents of Bengaluru. A formal case has been registered against them at the Metagalli police station. Following their arrest, a local court has remanded both accused to judicial custody, as confirmed in an official release.
Operation Conducted Under Expert Guidance
This successful operation was carried out under the direct guidance of CCB Assistant Commissioner of Police Mohammad Sharif and Police Inspector Shabbir Hussain. Their leadership played a pivotal role in dismantling the drug network and ensuring the arrests and seizures were executed efficiently.
Public Cooperation Emphasized to Curb Drug Sales
Mysuru district Additional Superintendent of Police Mallik C addressed the media on Tuesday, stressing that public cooperation, combined with support from various government departments, is absolutely crucial to effectively curb the drug sales network. He presided over the Narcotics Coordination Committee meeting held at the district police superintendent's office auditorium, where he underscored the importance of identifying drug addicts and providing them with counselling through de-addiction centres to aid in their recovery.
Mallik stated, "The police department is conducting several raids, but public cooperation is required to make these efforts more impactful." He also issued a stern warning regarding the misuse of medications, noting that there have been instances where sleeping pills were purchased without a doctor's prescription and used as drugs. Strict action will be taken against medical stores found selling such medicines without proper prescriptions.
New Anti-Drug Initiative Launched
Deputy Commissioner of Police (Crime) for Mysuru City, KS Sundar Raj, announced a new initiative called "Vimukhti," launched by Mysuru police as part of an ongoing anti-drug campaign. He encouraged the public to actively participate by passing on information about drug dealing or consumption to the police. To ensure safety and encourage reporting, the identity of informants will be kept strictly confidential if they provide information about drug sales.
This comprehensive approach, combining law enforcement actions with community involvement, aims to create a robust framework against drug-related activities in the region.
