Nagaur Police Seize Massive Explosive Cache in Major Security Operation

In a significant security operation conducted just ahead of Republic Day 2026, police in Nagaur district executed a major crackdown under the Explosives Act, resulting in the seizure of a vast cache of explosive materials and the arrest of one accused individual. Officials confirmed the details of this operation on Sunday, describing it as potentially one of the largest such actions ever undertaken in the state of Rajasthan.

Intelligence Inputs Trigger Major Police Operation

The operation was initiated following sustained intelligence inputs that indicated illegal procurement, storage, and movement of explosive substances within the district. Nagaur Superintendent of Police Mridul Kachhawa stated that district police acted decisively on specific intelligence leads, leading to the apprehension of the accused, who has been identified as Suleman Khan.

Addressing a press conference on Sunday, Kachhawa provided detailed insights: "For quite some time, the Nagaur police had been receiving intelligence reports indicating that large quantities of explosive materials were being bought, sold, and stored in the district. Yesterday, the district police carried out a major operation based on these inputs. In this operation, one person, Suleman Khan, an accused in this case, has been arrested. A case has been registered under sections of the Explosives Act and organized crime. A large quantity of explosive material was seized from the site. This is possibly the biggest operation under the Explosives Act in the state."

Massive Seizure of Ammonium Nitrate and Detonators

During the operation, police recovered a staggering total of 10,000 kilograms of ammonium nitrate, along with a substantial quantity of detonators, detonating wire, and other materials typically used for mining-related blasting activities. According to investigators, the seized stock was being stored illegally at a farmhouse belonging to the accused in Harsore village.

Kachhawa elaborated on the seizure: "A total of 10,000 kilograms of ammonium nitrate was seized. A large quantity of detonators, detonating wire, and other materials commonly used for mining-related blasting were also seized. The accused, Suleman Khan, is a resident of Harsore. He was storing the stock in his farmhouse. The accused has three previous cases registered against him, all related to the Explosives Act. He has been acquitted in one of them."

Accused Has Prior Criminal Record

Police confirmed that Suleman Khan has a significant criminal history, with three earlier cases registered against him, all linked to alleged violations of the Explosives Act. While one of those cases has resulted in acquittal, the others remain on record, highlighting a pattern of involvement with explosive materials.

Investigation Ongoing Ahead of Republic Day

Authorities have stated that further investigation is currently underway to determine several critical aspects:

  • The source of the explosives and possible supply networks involved.
  • Whether the materials were intended for unlawful use, particularly with Republic Day celebrations approaching.
  • Potential connections to other individuals or groups that might be implicated.

In light of the upcoming Republic Day celebrations, security measures across the district have been significantly heightened. Police have not ruled out the possibility of additional arrests as the probe continues, emphasizing the ongoing nature of this security operation and its importance in maintaining public safety during national events.
