Nagpur Mother Confronts Four Transgender Individuals in Alleged Infant Kidnapping Attempt
In a harrowing incident that unfolded in Nagpur's Gaddigodam area, a 23-year-old mother demonstrated remarkable courage by fighting off four transgender individuals who allegedly attempted to kidnap her four-month-old son from their residence on Monday afternoon. The Jaripatka police have formally charged the four suspects, all residents of West Bengal, with attempted kidnapping. Following the incident, the accused were released after being served a formal notice, pending further investigation.
Mother's Quick Action Prevents Potential Tragedy
According to the detailed statement provided by the mother, Mehvish Khan, to the Jaripatka police, the four accused quietly entered her home while she was engaged in her afternoon prayers. Rather than seeking alms as is customary, one of the intruders proceeded to lift the sleeping infant, Hasnain, from his cradle with the apparent intention of walking away with the child. Mehvish's other son, two-year-old Armaan, was playing nearby at the time.
Startled by the sudden intrusion, Mehvish immediately pushed the individual, forcing them to drop the infant onto the bed. Following this swift action, all four accused fled the house in haste. Demonstrating remarkable presence of mind, Mehvish promptly ran to her brother Salman Salim Ansari's house, located in the same lane, and raised an alarm to alert the neighborhood.
Community Response and Police Intervention
Ansari, along with other concerned residents of the area, immediately initiated a search for the transgender individuals. The group soon located the four suspects near the Bada Gurudwara. By this time, news about the alarming incident had spread rapidly throughout Gaddigodam and neighboring areas, creating widespread concern among residents.
An angry crowd gathered and nearly manhandled the four individuals in a display of public outrage over the alleged kidnapping attempt. Police personnel quickly rushed to the scene to bring the volatile situation under control and ensure the safety of all parties involved. Meanwhile, a vigilant local resident called the Childline number 1098, prompting officials to verify the infant's well-being and ensure proper protocols were followed.
Police Investigation and Official Statements
The police have identified the four accused as Mohaldul Mafijeddin Malik (26), Saburli Iran Ali Gain (45), Qurban Ali Khan (25), and Sharabuddin Sheikh (20). In their defense, the transgender individuals insisted that they had only come to ask for alms and had playfully picked up the child for a few seconds without any intention of abduction.
District Child Protection Officer Mushtak Pathan has demanded a thorough investigation into the matter, emphasizing that strict anti-human trafficking sections should be invoked if any organized pattern of child-lifting is uncovered during the probe. "A comprehensive investigation is absolutely necessary to ascertain whether this group is part of a larger racket targeting vulnerable infants in the region," Pathan stated, adding that a strong message needs to be sent against any form of exploitation targeting small children.
Ongoing Investigation and Community Alert
Police authorities are currently conducting a detailed investigation that includes checking the suspects' criminal records, analyzing call detail records, examining their travel movements, and investigating possible links to similar complaints in the area. The incident has put residents across Jaripatka and surrounding areas on high alert, with community members watching vigilantly for any strangers approaching homes with young children.
This disturbing event has highlighted the importance of community vigilance and prompt police response in protecting vulnerable members of society, particularly infants and young children who are most at risk in such situations.
