Nagpur Police Crack Down on Drug Peddling with Major Ganja Seizure
In a significant crackdown on narcotics trafficking, the Anti-Narcotics Squad of the Nagpur Police Crime Branch has successfully seized approximately 4 kilograms of ganja (cannabis) and apprehended two individuals involved in drug peddling activities. The operation, conducted as part of the ongoing 'Operation Thunder' initiative, underscores the city's commitment to eradicating illegal drug networks and fostering a drug-free environment.
Routine Patrol Leads to Major Discovery
On February 7, during routine patrolling in the Bilal Nagar, Wanjra Layout, and MHADA Quarter Slum areas under the jurisdiction of the Yashodhara Nagar police, officers observed a suspicious passenger traveling in an auto-rickshaw. Acting swiftly on their instincts, the police intercepted the vehicle to conduct a thorough investigation.
The individual was identified as Adil Sheikh Karim Sheikh (40), a resident of the locality. A search of his possession revealed a white bag containing the substantial haul of 4 kg of ganja. In addition to the narcotics, authorities confiscated a mobile phone and the auto-rickshaw used in the operation. The total estimated value of the seized contraband and items amounts to ₹3.13 lakhs, highlighting the scale of this illicit activity.
Interrogation Unveils Supply Chain
Following the initial arrest, intensive interrogation of Adil Sheikh led to crucial information about his supplier. This breakthrough resulted in the subsequent arrest of Sukhraj Singh alias Raja Randhawa Harvinder Singh (31). During questioning, the accused admitted to procuring the ganja with assistance from a wanted individual, Atiq Rafiq Khan of Bhilgaon, primarily for financial gain. This revelation points to a broader network that authorities are actively working to dismantle.
Legal Action and Ongoing Efforts
A formal case has been registered against the accused under Sections 8(a), 20(b)(ii)(b), and 29 of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Yashodhara Nagar police station. Both individuals are currently in police custody, and law enforcement agencies are intensifying efforts to apprehend the third person involved in this case, identified as Atiq Rafiq Khan.
The operation was executed under the strategic leadership of CP Ravinder Kumar Singal, as part of Nagpur police's sustained 'Operation Thunder' campaign. This initiative aims to systematically dismantle drug networks and promote a safer, drug-free society across the city. The successful seizure and arrests demonstrate the effectiveness of proactive policing and community vigilance in combating narcotics-related crimes.
