Nagpur Teenager Dies in Tragic Hit-and-Run After Completing Board Examination
A heartbreaking incident unfolded in Nagpur on Tuesday afternoon when a 16-year-old Class 10 student lost his life in a devastating hit-and-run accident. The tragedy occurred as the teenager and his mother were returning home after he had just completed his crucial board examination.
Details of the Fatal Collision
The accident took place around 2 PM near the Pili Nadi Parking Plaza, within the jurisdiction of the Yashodhara Nagar police station. According to police reports, Rina Meshram (40) was driving her son, Atharva (16), back to their residence in Chandramani Nagar, Ajni, following his exam session.
A speeding truck, allegedly being operated in a rash and negligent manner, violently collided with their scooter (registration number MH 49 AM 8984). The impact was so severe that it threw both mother and son onto the roadway. The truck driver immediately fled the scene without stopping to render assistance.
Aftermath and Police Investigation
Atharva sustained critical injuries in the collision. Despite being rushed to a private hospital for emergency treatment, he was tragically declared dead. His mother, Rina, suffered relatively minor injuries and is currently recovering under medical care.
Based on a formal complaint filed by the victim's father, Chandrashekhar (48), authorities have registered a comprehensive case against the unidentified driver. The charges include multiple sections under the new Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) – specifically Sections 106(1), 281, 125(A), and 125(B) – along with relevant provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act (Sections 134, 177, and 184).
Breakthrough in the Case
In a significant development, Senior Inspector Sandeep Buwa of the Yashodhara Nagar Police Station confirmed that the accused truck driver has been successfully traced. The breakthrough came through meticulous examination of CCTV footage from the vicinity of the accident.
"The truck involved in the incident belonged to a local business establishment. The company's name was clearly visible on the vehicle in the captured footage," Inspector Buwa stated. "We promptly contacted the business owner and have since seized the truck as part of our ongoing investigation."
This tragic event has sent shockwaves through the local community, highlighting grave concerns about road safety, especially near educational institutions and examination centers. The police investigation continues as they work to apprehend the driver and deliver justice for the grieving family.
