Nashik Police Apprehend Two Fugitives in Separate Year-Old Cases
In a significant breakthrough, the Nashik city police have successfully arrested two criminals who were wanted in two distinct cases registered over a year ago. The arrests were made under the strategic guidance of Commissioner of Police Sandeep Karnik, as part of a focused effort to track down individuals who have been evading law enforcement since the initial registration of their cases at various police stations.
First Case: Arrest for Attempted Culpable Homicide
On Friday, the police apprehended Sufiyan Shaikh, a 20-year-old resident of Lekhanagar in Cidco, for his alleged involvement in an attempt to commit culpable homicide. This case was originally filed with the Ambad police station last year, stemming from an incident that occurred on August 11, 2023.
According to police reports, Shaikh, along with five associates, forcibly entered a shop in the Cidco area at approximately 7:30 PM. Their intention was to carry out a robbery. During the altercation, they assaulted the shopkeeper and a worker present at the scene. The perpetrators fled only after a crowd gathered around the store, drawing attention to the commotion.
The charges against Shaikh include multiple sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), such as:
- Section 110(1)(2): Attempt to commit culpable homicide
- Section 189(2): Unlawful assembly
- Section 118: Voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt by dangerous weapons or means
- Section 332(b): House-trespass in order to commit an offence
- Section 352: Intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace
Second Case: Arrest for Grievous Hurt
In a separate development, the police arrested another individual, Anil Khare, on Saturday. Khare was wanted in connection with a case of grievous hurt that was registered by the Upnagar police in July 2024.
Officials stated that Khare, along with his family members, allegedly assaulted a 30-year-old man from the Upnagar area. This violent incident was reportedly driven by a pre-existing feud between the parties involved, highlighting the ongoing tensions that led to the criminal act.
The successful arrests underscore the Nashik police's commitment to pursuing long-standing cases and ensuring that fugitives are brought to justice. Senior officers emphasized that these operations are part of a broader initiative to enhance public safety and uphold the rule of law in the city.
