Navi Mumbai Police File Case Against Grandfather for Alleged Assault on Infant Grandson

In a deeply disturbing case from Navi Mumbai, the Koparkhairane police have officially registered a First Information Report (FIR) against a 50-year-old man following serious allegations made by his daughter-in-law. The complainant has accused her father-in-law of sexually assaulting her one-year-old son and subjecting her to persistent sexual harassment.

Details of the Allegations and Police Response

According to the police complaint, the alleged incidents are said to have occurred between August 12 and December 4 of last year. The daughter-in-law reported that she informed her husband, who is currently working in Dubai, about the situation. Her husband reportedly stated that he would address the matter upon his return from Dubai. However, as the harassment allegedly continued unabated, she decided to take formal legal action by filing a police complaint against her father-in-law this past Friday.

Umesh Gavali, the Senior Police Inspector at the Koparkhairane police station, provided insights into the case. "The complainant lodged the report approximately two months after the alleged incidents concluded, which raises certain questions regarding the timing," Inspector Gavali noted. "Nevertheless, we are treating the allegations with the utmost seriousness and have initiated a thorough investigation."

Legal Charges and Current Status of the Accused

The accused individual has been charged under several stringent legal provisions. The charges include relevant sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) pertaining to sexual harassment against a woman, assault or use of criminal force against a woman, and criminal intimidation. Critically, the case also invokes the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (Pocso) Act, given the involvement of a minor child.

Inspector Gavali further elaborated on the operational aspects of the investigation. "The accused is presently located in Hyderabad and is reportedly unaware of the FIR registered against him. To prevent any potential flight risk, we have not made direct contact with him at this stage," he explained. "Our plan is to detain him formally for a comprehensive inquiry. Following the inquiry, appropriate legal proceedings will be pursued based on the findings."

The police are now coordinating with authorities in Hyderabad to facilitate the detention and subsequent interrogation of the accused. This case highlights the complex dynamics often present in familial disputes involving serious criminal allegations, particularly when family members are geographically dispersed.
