Traffic Constable Seriously Injured in Greater Noida Road Rage Incident

A shocking incident of road rage and assault on a police officer unfolded in Greater Noida on Wednesday afternoon, leaving a traffic constable injured after a car driver allegedly attempted to run him over and dragged him for hundreds of meters.

Chaotic Scene at Busy Sector P3 Roundabout

The incident occurred around 2:30 PM at the busy roundabout in Sector P3 of Greater Noida, where traffic congestion had built up significantly. Constable Gurmeet Chaudhary, who was deployed at the spot to manage vehicular movement, was intermittently halting traffic to ease the flow when the violent confrontation occurred.

Driver Ignores Signals, Rams Into Constable

According to the police complaint, a red Hyundai car with Uttar Pradesh registration approached the roundabout at dangerously high speed. The driver allegedly ignored repeated signals from Constable Chaudhary to stop and began verbally abusing the officer, claiming he was in a hurry and couldn't wait.

When Chaudhary attempted to stop the vehicle near the Army Welfare Housing Organisation's (AWHO) residential project, the situation escalated dramatically. The driver allegedly accelerated and rammed the car directly into the constable, causing him to land on the vehicle's bonnet.

Horrifying 500-Meter Ordeal

What followed was particularly harrowing. Despite the constable clinging to the front of the vehicle and crying for help, the driver continued driving for approximately 400 to 500 meters with the officer still on the bonnet. This terrifying ordeal only ended when the car eventually stopped, allowing the injured constable to get down.

Constable Chaudhary sustained significant injuries in the incident but was reported to be in stable condition following medical treatment. The physical and psychological trauma of being dragged for such a distance while desperately clinging to a moving vehicle represents a serious assault on a public servant performing his duty.

Multiple Charges Including Attempt to Murder

Police have registered a First Information Report (FIR) against the unidentified driver under several serious sections of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). The charges include:

  • Section 281 for rash driving
  • Section 121 for voluntarily causing hurt or grievous hurt to deter a public servant from duty
  • Section 132 for assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from discharge of duty
  • Section 352 for intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace
  • Section 109 for attempt to murder

Investigation Underway, CCTV Footage Being Examined

Police officials confirmed that CCTV footage from the area is being thoroughly examined to identify the vehicle and trace the accused driver. The comprehensive investigation aims to bring the perpetrator to justice for this brazen attack on law enforcement.

This incident highlights the growing challenges faced by traffic police personnel who regularly confront aggressive drivers while managing congested urban intersections. The assault on Constable Chaudhary represents not just an attack on an individual officer but an assault on the rule of law and public safety mechanisms.

Greater Noida police have intensified their efforts to identify and apprehend the driver, emphasizing that such attacks on police personnel performing their duties will be dealt with strictly according to the law. The case has drawn attention to the need for enhanced safety measures for traffic police and stricter enforcement against road rage incidents in urban areas.
