Noida: Two More Hostel Staffers Arrested in Student Death

Noida Police Make Additional Arrests in Tragic Hostel Death Case

In a significant development in the ongoing investigation into the death of a BTech student at a private hostel in Noida's Knowledge Park-3 area, police authorities made two additional arrests on Wednesday. The latest apprehensions bring the total number of individuals detained in connection with this tragic incident to four, as law enforcement continues to unravel the circumstances surrounding the young student's untimely demise.

Latest Arrests and Investigation Details

The two individuals taken into custody on Wednesday have been identified as Sudhanshu, also known as Shekhar, aged 35 and originally from Buxar district in Bihar, along with Rohit Bhati, also 35, who hails from Dadri in GB Nagar. Both men served as administrators at the private hostel where the incident occurred. According to police officials, the arrests were executed at IIMT crossing based on confidential intelligence gathered through local sources.

This development follows the earlier arrests on January 25 of two other individuals connected to the hostel management: Satyanarayan Pandey, aged 54, and Dharam Singh Sikarwar, aged 47. All four accused now face charges under sections 115(2) and 108 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) related to abetment to suicide, following a formal complaint lodged by the deceased student's father.

Tragic Sequence of Events

The heartbreaking incident centers around Udit Soni, a second-year BTech student originally from Jhansi, whose life ended tragically on January 23 when he jumped from the fourth floor of the hostel building. According to police reconstruction of events, Udit had returned to the hostel on Friday evening accompanied by two friends after consuming alcohol, which reportedly violated established hostel regulations.

What followed, according to fellow students and initial investigations, was a severe reprimand from hostel staff that allegedly escalated into physical assault. Disturbingly, students claim that wardens and administration officials physically assaulted Udit, and that the entire incident was recorded on video. This video was subsequently sent to Udit's father, Vijay Soni, who resides in Jhansi.

Upon receiving and viewing the distressing footage, Vijay Soni reportedly scolded his son over the telephone and warned him about potential consequences, including being brought back home if such incidents continued. Tragically, shortly after this conversation, Udit took the fatal leap from the hostel building. Despite being rushed to a nearby medical facility, he was declared dead upon arrival, leaving his family, friends, and the entire student community in profound grief.

Aftermath and Community Response

The shocking death triggered widespread anger and outrage among the student population residing in and around the Knowledge Park-3 area. The emotional response manifested in unrest, incidents of violence, and damage to vehicles within the hostel premises, necessitating police deployment to restore order and prevent further escalation.

In response to the vandalism and property damage that occurred during the protests, authorities have registered a separate case to address these incidents. The situation highlights the deep emotional impact the tragedy has had on the student community and raises important questions about hostel management practices, student welfare protocols, and institutional responsibility.

As the investigation continues to unfold, police authorities remain focused on gathering additional evidence and witness testimonies to build a comprehensive case. The arrests represent a crucial step in the judicial process, but many questions remain unanswered about the systemic issues that may have contributed to this preventable tragedy.
