In a significant breakthrough, the Sholinganallur police in Chennai have arrested a notorious history-sheeter, his wife, and an accomplice for orchestrating a sophisticated robbery by luring a 48-year-old tahsildar through a dating application. The incident, which unfolded on Tuesday, involved the theft of substantial gold jewellery and cash from the government official.

Details of the Arrest and Accused Individuals

Police have identified the primary accused as 32-year-old Maharaja, infamously known as 'High Court' Maharaja due to his extensive criminal record. His wife, Priyadharshini, aged 20, and their 45-year-old accomplice, Dhanalakshmi, were also taken into custody. According to authorities, Priyadharshini initiated contact with the tahsildar, who hails from Tiruvallur, via the dating app and persuaded him to meet in person.

Modus Operandi of the Crime

The tahsildar arrived at the predetermined meeting location adorned with 25 sovereigns of gold jewellery and carrying additional ornaments in his bag. During the encounter, Maharaja clandestinely photographed the tahsildar with Priyadharshini. Subsequently, he threatened to leak these compromising images unless the official surrendered his valuables. In a state of panic, the tahsildar complied, handing over his gold jewellery and cash to the trio before departing the scene.

Police Investigation and Case Registration

Following the robbery, the tahsildar promptly filed a formal complaint with the Sholinganallur police, leading to the registration of a case. Law enforcement officials launched a thorough investigation, which culminated in the swift arrest of all three suspects. Police sources revealed that Maharaja is a seasoned criminal with a murder case pending against him in Tuticorin.

Extensive Criminal Background of 'High Court' Maharaja

Maharaja faces a litany of serious criminal charges, including:

  • Robbery and extortion

  • Human trafficking allegations

His notoriety was further highlighted in July 2024 when he made headlines after the wife of a Gujarat-based IAS officer, with whom he had eloped, died by suicide in Ahmedabad.
