Parents of Murdered Kolkata Doctor Demand Custodial Interrogation in Court Appeal

In a significant development, the parents of a postgraduate trainee doctor who was tragically raped and murdered at RG Kar Medical College and Hospital in 2024 have made a fervent plea for justice. On Tuesday, they appeared before the trial court in Sealdah, Kolkata, demanding custodial interrogation of all individuals who were present with their daughter during her night shift at the hospital on the fateful night of the incident.

Fresh Appeal Highlights Allegations of Conspiracy

The parents have raised serious concerns about the investigation process, alleging that both the Kolkata Police and the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) have overlooked critical angles. They specifically called for the questioning of the police officer who initially handled the case, urging authorities to delve deeper into what they describe as a larger conspiracy behind the brutal crime.

In a heartfelt statement, the father of the victim expressed his firm belief that the arrested civic volunteer, Sanjay Roy, could not have acted alone. "We are of the firm belief that Sanjay Roy cannot be the sole person involved in brutalising our daughter, who was killed while performing her duty at her workplace. There were a few others, and we pray before the Sealdah court that all of them, including a Kolkata Police officer, be taken into custody and interrogated," he said.

Demands for Comprehensive Investigation

The parents' demands include:

  • Custodial interrogation of all hospital staff and others present during the night shift.
  • Questioning of the initial investigating police officer to uncover potential lapses or conspiracies.
  • A thorough re-examination of the case by authorities to ensure no stone is left unturned.

This appeal marks a renewed effort by the family to seek accountability and justice, emphasizing the need for a more rigorous investigation into the circumstances surrounding the doctor's death. The case has drawn widespread attention, highlighting issues of safety and security in medical workplaces.
