Tragic Accident Claims Lives of Married Couple in Patna
A devastating road accident resulted in the deaths of a married couple after their car lost control and plunged into a canal in the Bikram police station area of Patna district on Wednesday morning. The incident, which occurred around 9 am near Mozakka Tola village, has highlighted serious safety concerns in the region.
Survivors Escape by Jumping from Vehicle
Two other occupants of the vehicle managed to save themselves by jumping out before the car overturned into the canal. According to the survivors, they were traveling to Patna for medical treatment when the driver suddenly lost control, causing the vehicle to veer off the road and into the water. This quick action by the survivors prevented further casualties in what could have been an even more tragic event.
Rescue Operation and Recovery of Bodies
Local villagers, along with police personnel, immediately launched a rescue operation following the accident. The bodies of the deceased were later recovered from the canal and sent to All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS), Patna, for post-mortem examination. The swift response from the community and authorities helped in managing the aftermath of the incident.
Identification of the Deceased
The deceased have been identified as Jitendra Kumar, aged 56, and his wife Malti Devi, aged 45. They were residents of Saraibar village under Kutumba police station in Aurangabad district. The couple's untimely demise has left the local community in mourning, with many expressing shock and grief over the sudden loss.
Police Investigation and Safety Demands
On receiving information about the accident, Bikram SHO Prabhat Kumar reached the spot and supervised the recovery of the bodies with the help of the police team and locals. He stated, “Prima facie, the driver lost control of the vehicle, which led to the accident.” The local villagers have demanded the installation of an iron railing fence alongside the canal to enhance passenger safety. SHO Kumar added, “The authorities concerned will be requested for the development.” This demand underscores the urgent need for improved infrastructure to prevent similar tragedies in the future.
The accident serves as a grim reminder of the importance of road safety measures and proper vehicle control, especially in areas with hazardous road conditions. As investigations continue, the focus remains on implementing preventive actions to safeguard travelers in the region.
