The Patna district administration has taken a significant step towards justice and support for marginalized communities by disbursing substantial financial compensation to victims of atrocities. This year, a sum exceeding ₹6.96 crore has been distributed to aid hundreds of affected individuals and families.
Substantial Financial Aid for Victims
During a crucial review meeting of the district vigilance and monitoring committee held at the Patna Collectorate on Tuesday, District Magistrate Thiyagarajan S M revealed the impactful figures. The administration provided financial aid covering a total of 769 individual cases, benefiting 954 victims under the provisions of the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act. The disbursement of over ₹6.96 crore marks a concerted effort to deliver timely relief to those who have suffered.
Zero-Tolerance Directive and Expedited Services
In the meeting, DM Thiyagarajan issued clear and firm instructions to all concerned officials. He mandated a zero-tolerance policy towards any atrocities committed against Scheduled Caste and Scheduled Tribe communities. He emphasized the critical need for all investigations to be thorough and for chargesheets to be filed strictly within the legal timeframe to ensure swift justice.
Beyond addressing past crimes, the DM also focused on improving essential service delivery. He instructed sub-divisional officers to expedite the distribution of ration cards to eligible beneficiaries. Furthermore, he directed the civil surgeon to organize weekly camps dedicated to issuing disability ID cards, simplifying the process for citizens requiring these crucial documents.
Channels for Immediate Reporting and Intervention
To strengthen the mechanism for reporting incidents and seeking help, the district magistrate highlighted accessible channels for citizens. He stated that individuals can now report cases of atrocity or seek immediate intervention directly through the emergency Dial 112 service or by contacting the district control room. This move aims to reduce response times and provide victims with a direct line to authorities.
The comprehensive review and the subsequent directives underscore the administration's commitment to upholding the rights and dignity of SC/ST communities in Patna. The substantial compensation disbursement, coupled with a strict stance on future cases and improved public service, represents a multi-pronged approach to social justice and administrative efficiency in the district.
