New Clue Emerges in Nancy Guthrie Kidnapping Investigation

In a significant development in the desperate search for Savannah Guthrie's mother, Nancy Guthrie, investigators have uncovered a new potential clue. Analysis of chilling doorbell camera footage has revealed what appears to be a pinky ring beneath the glove worn by the alleged abductor.

Sheriff's Office Examines Ring Detail

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos confirmed to NBC News on Tuesday that security footage may show a pinky ring on the kidnapper's hand underneath their glove. "I look at the same photo you look at [of the person seemingly tampering with Guthrie's camera], and I get it," Sheriff Nanos stated. He emphasized, "I'm going to give that to my team. They'll look at that. They'll analyze it, and we'll see. Maybe it is (a ring)."

This discovery represents a potentially crucial detail in the broader investigation, as authorities continue to pursue every possible lead in the disappearance of the 84-year-old woman.

Glove DNA Analysis Yields No Matches

Despite recovering a glove matching the one worn by the suspect approximately two miles from Nancy Guthrie's residence, DNA testing has so far failed to produce matches in law enforcement databases. The glove underwent initial testing in Florida followed by retesting in Arizona, with neither analysis generating hits in the FBI's Combined DNA Index System (CODIS).

Sheriff Nanos shared this disappointing update via social media platform X, clarifying that "the DNA found at the property is being analyzed & further testing needs to be done as part of the investigation." He further revealed on Friday that the DNA evidence does not belong to anyone "close" to Nancy Guthrie.

Investigation Questions Randomness of Disappearance

In an interview with the Today show, Sheriff Nanos suggested the disappearance may not have been a random act. "I think this was an individual who had a target, for whatever reason, and he has made it tough, but I've got some pretty tough investigators too," he asserted.

Earlier in the investigation, however, authorities maintained a more cautious approach. "We don't know. We're going to assume both sides of that. We'll look at both sides of that," Nanos stated regarding whether the case involved a targeted or random kidnapping.

Family Continues Emotional Appeals

As investigators pursue new leads, Nancy Guthrie's children have maintained heartfelt public appeals through social media platforms. In a recent Instagram video, Savannah Guthrie addressed the alleged captor directly, stating, "It is never too late to do the right thing. … We believe in the essential goodness of every human being."

Federal Attention on the Case

The investigation has drawn attention at the highest levels of government. On February 16, former US President Donald Trump commented on the case during a brief interview with the New York Post. Trump warned that abductors would face "very, very severe, the most severe" federal consequences if Nancy Guthrie is found deceased.

The combined efforts of local investigators, forensic analysts, and concerned family members continue as this troubling case enters another phase with the discovery of the potential pinky ring clue.
