Prayagraj Police Unveil Comprehensive Zero-Error Strategy for Maghi Purnima Snan

The Magh Mela police in Prayagraj have implemented an ambitious "zero error" security and traffic management plan for the upcoming Maghi Purnima snan scheduled for February 1. Authorities are anticipating a massive congregation of 1 to 1.5 crore devotees for this significant religious event, which follows the remarkable turnout of over 3.56 crore pilgrims during the Basant Panchami snan earlier this month.

Traffic Regulation Takes Center Stage

With most kalpwasis expected to conclude their spiritual journey and head home after the sacred bath, traffic regulation has become the primary focus of the elaborate security arrangements. The mela police have declared the entire campus and surrounding areas as a strict no-vehicle zone, with particular emphasis on facilitating smooth vehicle exits from the mela premises.

Police officials have finalized separate entry and exit routes for seven different directions to manage the anticipated traffic surge on February 1-2. The strategic planning accounts for potential increased crowds due to the Sunday holiday, with authorities preparing for all contingencies to ensure orderly movement.

Massive Police Deployment and Security Measures

The mela administration has strategically deployed a formidable force of 15,000 police personnel across 32 static points specifically designated for crowd and traffic management. This substantial deployment represents one of the most comprehensive security arrangements for the religious gathering.

Key security features include:

  • 8-tier security architecture with joint police-paramilitary teams
  • Enhanced surveillance at critical entry points including New Yamuna Bridge, Shastri Bridge, and Phaphmau Bridge
  • Additional Provincial Armed Constabulary (PAC) units and dedicated bike patrols on high alert
  • Special traffic management protocols for pontoon bridges

Communication and Crowd Management Initiatives

Two dedicated police communication teams have been established to maintain regular contact with devotees through public address systems. These teams will make continuous announcements urging pilgrims to:

  1. Follow all established rules and regulations
  2. Avoid creating congestion on entry and exit routes
  3. Refrain from loitering on ghats after completing their bath
  4. Consume food and beverages away from the bathing areas

Senior Superintendent of Police (Magh Mela) Neeraj Pandey emphasized the preparedness, stating: "Since the mela witnessed a huge footfall on main snan days, we expect a similar or higher turnout on Maghi Purnima. Cops are on high alert mode, and all necessary measures are in place to ensure all devotees have a safe and blissful snan and their safe return."

Comprehensive Traffic Control Measures

With 24 ghats expected to be bustling with activity, authorities have implemented multiple traffic control measures:

  • One-way traffic systems throughout the mela area
  • Strategic entry restrictions at multiple points
  • Extensive barricading to manage pedestrian and vehicle flow
  • The no-vehicle zone will remain strictly enforced until crowds completely disperse

Top police officials are implementing every possible measure to create a lasting positive impression through their zero-error approach, ensuring that the Maghi Purnima snan proceeds smoothly, safely, and spiritually fulfilling for all participants.
