Pregnant Delhi Police Commando Dies After Husband's Attack

NEW DELHI: In a shocking incident that has sent shockwaves through the law enforcement community, Kajal Chaudhary, a 27-year-old SWAT commando serving with the Delhi Police's elite Special Cell, tragically passed away on January 27. The young officer, who was four months pregnant at the time, succumbed to her injuries at a hospital in Ghaziabad, marking a devastating end to a brutal domestic assault.

The Fatal Assault and Chilling Phone Call

The horrific sequence of events unfolded at the couple's residence in Mohan Garden, where Kajal was allegedly attacked by her husband, Ankur, who works as a clerk with the Ministry of Defence. The assault occurred five days prior to her death, leaving the pregnant commando with severe injuries that ultimately proved fatal.

The brutality of the incident was captured in a chilling phone call made by Ankur to Kajal's brother, Nikhil, who serves as a constable at the Parliament Street Police Station. "He specifically instructed me to record the conversation for police evidence, then calmly stated he was killing my sister," Nikhil recounted with visible anguish. "I could hear her terrified screams in the background before the line abruptly went dead."

Family's Harrowing Account

Moments after that terrifying call, Nikhil received another communication from Ankur. "He informed me that she was dead and that we should come to the hospital," Nikhil added. "By the time we arrived with police officials, he and his family members were already present at the medical facility."

Allegations of Sustained Dowry Harassment

The grieving family has come forward with disturbing allegations of prolonged torture and dowry-related harassment that Kajal endured throughout her marriage, even during her pregnancy. According to Nikhil, his sister was subjected to multiple injuries and continuous mistreatment.

"Despite being four months pregnant, she was forced to handle all household chores," Nikhil revealed. "Earlier incidents included physical slapping, and despite apologies, the abusive behavior never ceased."

Financial Demands and Marriage Expenses

Kajal's father, Rakesh, provided further distressing details about the financial pressures placed on the family. He claimed they had expended approximately Rs 20 lakh on the marriage, which included substantial gifts such as a Bullet motorcycle, gold jewelry, and cash payments.

"Even after we arranged a car for them, the torment and demands continued unabated," Rakesh stated emotionally. "He has proven himself to be nothing short of a monster in his treatment of our daughter."

Police Investigation and Case Details

Delhi Police officials investigating the case have identified multiple contributing factors behind the violent attack. According to their preliminary findings, arguments concerning loans, household expenses, and general financial stress played significant roles in escalating domestic tensions.

A senior Delhi Police officer provided specific details about the January 22 assault: "Ankur allegedly banged Kajal's head against a door frame before proceeding to assault her with a dumbbell," the officer disclosed.

Legal Proceedings and Charge Upgrades

Following Nikhil's formal complaint, authorities at the Mohan Garden police station registered a case against Ankur. "Initially, he was booked under charges of attempt to murder," the investigating officer explained. "With Kajal's tragic passing, these charges will now be upgraded to murder, reflecting the severity of the outcome."

The couple leaves behind a 1.5-year-old son, who is currently staying with Kajal's grieving parents. This tragic incident has highlighted serious concerns about domestic violence within law enforcement families and renewed calls for stronger protections against dowry harassment and spousal abuse.
