A tragic road accident in Tamil Nadu's Virudhunagar district has claimed the life of a prison warder and left seven others injured, including a three-month-old infant. The collision occurred in the early hours of Friday near Sattur, when a private bus carrying approximately 40 passengers rammed into a moving truck from behind.

Details of the Fatal Collision

The deceased has been identified as 43-year-old Lenin, a native of Kanyakumari district who was currently serving as a jail warder at the Kulithurai sub-jail. Police sources revealed that the private bus was traveling from Chennai to Kanyakumari and was being driven by 27-year-old Hariram Bharat from Chennai.

Sequence of Events Leading to the Crash

According to preliminary investigations, the accident happened near the Etturvattam toll plaza in Sattur. The driver reportedly lost control of the speeding vehicle, causing it to collide with the rear of a truck moving ahead. The impact was so severe that it completely mangled the front portion of the bus, leading to the immediate death of Lenin.

Rescue Operations and Medical Response

Upon receiving information about the crash, police and fire and rescue department personnel rushed to the accident site to conduct rescue operations. They worked diligently to extricate trapped passengers from the wreckage.

Six injured individuals were rescued and rushed to the Sattur Government Hospital for initial treatment. The injured include:

Among the injured, Mahalingam sustained serious injuries and required advanced medical care. He was subsequently referred to the Government Rajaji Hospital in Madurai for specialized treatment.

The Vachakarapatti police have registered a case against the bus driver, Hariram Bharat, and have launched a thorough investigation into the circumstances that led to this fatal collision. Authorities are examining multiple factors including vehicle speed, road conditions, and driver fatigue as potential contributing elements to the accident.
