Tragic Suicide at Lion's Point on Wife's Birthday

In a heartbreaking incident, a 32-year-old assistant sales manager from Pune ended his life by jumping into a deep gorge at Lion's Point near Lonavla in the early hours of Thursday. The day marked the birthday of his wife, with whom he had been experiencing severe marital discord.

Marital Discord and Final Messages

According to Inspector Dinesh Tayade of the Lonavla Rural police, the victim, a resident of Hinjewadi in Pune, had been under significant stress due to ongoing arguments with his wife. The situation escalated when his wife left their home on February 10 and relocated to Mumbai, subsequently blocking his phone number.

On Thursday morning, the man attempted to contact his wife to wish her on her birthday. When he failed to establish communication, he recorded a video message detailing his distress and emailed it to her. He also sent a text message to one of his friends before proceeding to Lion's Point, approximately 70 kilometers from Pune.

Police Investigation and Recovery Operation

The victim's wife and friend separately approached the police after receiving the email and text message. In his communication, the man mentioned that his car was parked near Lion's Point. Police officers located the vehicle with the key hidden under a tyre and found his cellphone inside.

Inspector Tayade immediately coordinated with the Shivdurga Mitra rescue team from Lonavla to search the 250-foot deep gorge. Sunil Gaikwad of Shivdurga Mitra reported that his team members successfully traced the body and, using a stretcher, recovered it around 4:30 PM.

Legal Proceedings and Ongoing Investigation

The police have registered a case under Section 108 (suicide abetment) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) based on a complaint filed by the victim's wife. In the video message, the deceased mentioned names of three men and five women, including office colleagues, with whom he had personal issues.

"Our investigations are ongoing," stated Inspector Tayade, emphasizing that the victim had been working as a sales manager for a Pune-based company specializing in renting and selling shipping containers for the past few months. The recent personal dispute with his wife appears to have been a significant contributing factor to this tragic outcome.

The case highlights the severe consequences of unresolved personal conflicts and the importance of mental health support during times of emotional distress.
