Pune Police Crack Down on Chain-Snatching and Motorcycle Theft Ring
In a significant breakthrough, the Kalewadi police in Pune have apprehended three individuals with existing police records in connection with a recent chain-snatching crime that occurred in the Rahatani area. The operation not only led to the recovery of a stolen gold chain valued at Rs 3.80 lakh but also resulted in the seizure of seven motorcycles, with a collective worth of Rs 6 lakh, from the accused trio.
Arrests and Recovery Details
The incident unfolded on February 3 when one of the accused, identified as Sanjay Nakka (29), was captured at the scene by the chain-snatching victim and her husband. Following this, his accomplices, Adarsh Kamathikar (25) and Sanju Gudmalwar (24), both hailing from Nanded district, were taken into custody from a village in Jalna district.
Assistant Police Inspector Vaibhav Gurav of the Kalewadi police provided insights into the case, stating, "We recovered a motorcycle from the duo, which was stolen from Kalewadi recently." He elaborated that the police successfully traced the two suspects to Jalna district and apprehended them.
Confessions and Additional Recoveries
During interrogation, the trio confessed to their involvement in stealing motorcycles from the Kalewadi area over the past three months. API Gurav confirmed, "We recovered 7 motorcycles, which the trio stole in the last three months." In addition to the vehicles, the police also seized a sharp knife from the accused.
Highlighting their criminal backgrounds, Gurav noted, "They are criminals on the police records of the Nanded police and have cases registered against them." This underscores the trio's history of illicit activities, adding gravity to the current arrests.
The swift action by the Kalewadi police has not only addressed the immediate chain-snatching incident but also disrupted a broader pattern of motorcycle thefts, showcasing effective law enforcement efforts in Pune.
