Pune Police Conduct Major Raid, Rescue 11 Bangladeshi Women from Brothels

In a significant crackdown on human trafficking, the Pune city police rescued 11 Bangladeshi women from various brothels located in the red-light area of Budhwar Peth during the early hours of Wednesday. This operation comes just a month after a Bangladeshi woman, who was allegedly forced into the flesh trade in the same area, made serious allegations against a police constable, highlighting ongoing concerns about exploitation and illegal activities.

Second Major Operation in a Week

This marks the second such rescue operation in the Budhwar Peth red-light area within the last seven days. On February 12, police had already rescued two Bangladeshi women from brothels, along with several minor girls who were also victims of forced prostitution. The repeated raids indicate a heightened focus by authorities on combating human trafficking and protecting vulnerable individuals in the region.

Details of the Police Raid

Around 12:30 AM, a massive police team comprising 700 members, led by Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone I) Krushikesh Rawale, conducted coordinated raids on multiple brothels. The team meticulously checked for Bangladeshi women and minor girls who were being forced into prostitution, ensuring a thorough investigation to identify and assist victims.

Legal Actions and Future Steps

Pune Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar announced stringent measures following the rescue. "We will initiate the act of sealing the brothels or the buildings housing brothels where the Bangladeshi women were found staying illegally and forced into the flesh trade," he stated. Cases will be registered under the provisions of the Immoral Traffic (Prevention) Act, and authorities plan to soon begin the deportation process for these rescued women, aiming to provide them with a safe return to their home country.

The operation underscores the Pune police's commitment to addressing human trafficking and enforcing laws against immoral trafficking. With these efforts, authorities hope to dismantle networks involved in such illegal activities and ensure justice for the victims.
