Pune Police Thwart Murder Plot in Dramatic Late-Night Rescue Operation
In a dramatic late-night intervention on Sunday, the Pimpri Chinchwad police successfully rescued a man who had been abducted by a six-member criminal gang. The perpetrators had allegedly planned to eliminate the victim to coerce him into withdrawing a serious criminal case filed against them earlier this year.
Swift Police Action Leads to Arrests and Weapon Seizures
The police operation resulted in the arrest of all six suspects involved in the abduction. Authorities confiscated significant evidence from the scene, including two country-made pistols, multiple sharp-edged weapons, and two vehicles used during the crime—an SUV and a hatchback.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Sagar Javale (24), Nitin Thite (27), Saurabh Dhore (28), Ajay Gopale (23), Kunal Chavan (23), and Omkar Korde (24). All suspects are residents of Khed taluka in Pune district.
Chronology of the Abduction and Rescue
The incident began around 9 PM on Sunday when the gang abducted the victim from Vasul village. The victim, who has a prior criminal record according to police sources, was taken against his will by the armed assailants.
The rescue operation commenced immediately after the police control room received an alert containing the names of two abductors and detailed descriptions of the getaway vehicles. Deputy Commissioners of Police Shivaji Pawar (Crime) and Shweta Khekar (Zone IV) promptly dispatched three specialized police teams to track down the gang.
Following a crucial tip-off indicating the abductors were heading toward a sports complex in Khed, police officers set up an interception trap. "We successfully intercepted both vehicles and apprehended all the accused. The victim was rescued unharmed, and we recovered two country-made pistols along with two sharp weapons from the suspects," stated an officer from the Pimpri Chinchwad crime branch.
Root Cause: A Violent Feud Over Previous Crime
Police interrogations revealed that the abduction stemmed from a deep-seated feud connected to a previous violent crime. According to investigators, the victim's cousin was a suspect in the April 2023 murder of Shubham Kale, who happened to be a close friend of the accused gang members.
The situation escalated significantly when the victim began actively working to secure bail for his cousin, which infuriated the gang. Earlier this year, the rivalry turned violent when the gang allegedly opened fire on the victim. Following that shooting incident, the victim filed a formal attempted murder complaint with the Khed police.
"The accused were continuously pressuring him to withdraw that attempted murder case. When the victim refused to comply with their demands, they devised a detailed plot to abduct and eliminate him permanently," the investigating officer elaborated.
The police operation demonstrates effective coordination between different units and highlights how timely intelligence can prevent serious crimes. All six accused now face multiple charges including abduction, conspiracy to commit murder, illegal possession of firearms, and other relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code.
