Pune Shop Owner Brutally Assaulted by Biker's Relatives Following Road Accident

A shocking incident of violence unfolded in Pune on Saturday, where a 26-year-old shop owner from Kalyaninagar was subjected to a severe physical assault by two relatives of a motorcyclist involved in a road accident with him. The attack occurred at a private hospital in Yerawada, escalating from a verbal argument into a brutal beating that left the car driver with significant injuries.

Details of the Accident and Subsequent Attack

The incident began on Saturday morning on the Pune-Ahmednagar Road when the shop owner, who was driving a car, collided with a motorcycle, resulting in injuries to the biker. Demonstrating responsibility, the car driver immediately transported the injured motorcyclist to a private hospital in Yerawada for medical treatment and awaited the arrival of police and the biker's relatives.

However, the situation took a violent turn when two relatives of the motorcycle rider from Kalwad Vasti reached the hospital. An argument erupted in the hospital's verandah, with the relatives holding the shop owner accountable for their friend's injuries. Hospital staff intervened, objecting to their behavior, prompting the group to move to an open space on the premises.

It was there that the assault occurred. The duo attacked the shop owner, kicking and punching him, and using chairs, a belt, and other objects as weapons. Senior Inspector Ajum Bagwan of Yerawada police reported that the victim sustained injuries to his shoulders, chest, and legs during the attack.

Police Investigation and Cross-Complaints

Following the assault, both parties lodged cross-complaints against each other with the Yerawada police. The shop owner filed a complaint regarding the attack, while the biker's friend submitted a counter-complaint, likely related to the accident itself. Police are investigating the matter to determine the full sequence of events and assign liability.

Inspector Bagwan emphasized that the car driver had acted responsibly by not fleeing the accident scene and ensuring the biker received prompt medical attention. This responsible behavior contrasts sharply with the violent retaliation he faced at the hospital.

Broader Implications and Community Response

This incident highlights growing concerns over road rage and vigilante justice in urban areas. It raises questions about how disputes following accidents are handled, especially in emotional situations where relatives may react aggressively. The attack in a hospital setting, a place meant for healing, adds a layer of distress to the event.

Local authorities are urging citizens to rely on legal channels and police intervention rather than taking matters into their own hands. The case serves as a reminder of the importance of maintaining calm and following due process after road incidents to prevent such violent outcomes.
