The Punjab Vigilance Bureau (VB) apprehended Ravneet Singh, a recovery agent associated with Saviour Recovery Agency in Ludhiana, while he was accepting a bribe of Rs 10,000. The arrest was made based on a complaint from a resident of Kabir Nagar, Basti Jodhewal.
Complaint and Initial Demand
The complainant, who has operated a garment factory named GNW on the first floor of his residence since 2007, had secured a cash credit limit of Rs 40 lakh from IDBI Bank. Due to non-payment, the matter was sub-judice before the Debt Recovery Tribunal in Chandigarh. On May 25, Ravneet Singh approached the complainant, falsely introducing himself as an employee of Tehsil East, Ludhiana, and served a notice bearing the signature of the Tehsil East authority. He claimed that IDBI Bank was scheduled to take over the property on May 28, 2026, and demanded a bribe of Rs 60,000 to delay the possession and arrange a three-month extension for loan settlement.
Bribe Payment and Trap
According to a VB spokesperson, Ravneet had already accepted a first instalment of Rs 20,000, allegedly on behalf of other officials, and was demanding a second instalment of Rs 10,000. The complainant recorded the conversation during the bribe demand and approached the VB range in Ludhiana. Acting on the complaint, VB officials laid a trap and arrested Ravneet red-handed while accepting the Rs 10,000 bribe in the presence of two official witnesses.
Investigation and Legal Action
During the investigation, it was revealed that Ravneet was working as a recovery agent for Saviour Recovery Agency. The VB stated that if any involvement of IDBI Bank or Tehsil East officials comes to light, it will be considered during the investigation. A case under the Prevention of Corruption Act has been registered against the suspect at the VB police station in Ludhiana, and further investigation is underway.
