Ranchi Lawyer's Car Drags Biker on Bonnet in Viral Doranda Incident

A shocking incident in Ranchi's Doranda area on Tuesday saw a man allegedly being dragged on the bonnet of a high-end car, with the video quickly going viral across social media platforms. The vehicle belonged to Manoj Tandon, a practicing high court lawyer, who reportedly collided with a biker identified as Mawaj Khan near Rajendra Chowk under Doranda police station jurisdiction.

Contradictory Accounts of the Chaotic Confrontation

According to Hatia DSP P K Mishra, Khan stated he was traveling from the Doranda side when Tandon's car struck him at Rajendra Chowk, damaging his motorcycle's braking system. When Khan demanded compensation, Tandon refused, leading to a gathering crowd. Fearing public anger, Tandon allegedly drove toward his nearby residence with Khan clinging desperately to the car's bonnet.

"They both lodged written complaints at the police station. We are collecting evidence and investigating the matter. Meanwhile, no arrests have been made," DSP Mishra confirmed, noting that police later escorted both parties to Doranda station.

Lawyer Claims Self-Defense Against Mob Threat

Contradicting Khan's version, Tandon claimed the biker suddenly appeared from the wrong side, resulting in minor contact. "Neither the biker nor his bike was damaged," Tandon told media, alleging that after the incident, Khan stopped his car and demanded immediate payment—starting at Rs 500 and escalating to Rs 2,000 within minutes.

Tandon described being harassed and abused by an increasingly aggressive mob that demanded he exit his vehicle. "I could only save myself by staying locked inside the car. There was no other choice for me but to leave the spot or else I had to face death itself," he asserted, explaining that the helmet-wearing biker jumped onto his bonnet and refused to dismount despite repeated requests.

"The mob was chasing me as I rushed for safety to my flat in Doranda. The mob also surrounded the flat," Tandon added, painting a picture of a life-threatening situation that necessitated his dramatic escape.

Legal Community Weighs In on the Controversy

Jharkhand State Bar Council outgoing chairman Rajendra Krishna supported Tandon's account, stating an advocate was harassed and faced potential lynching. "There was no other alternative but to run from the spot to save his life," Krishna emphasized, highlighting concerns about lawyer safety during public confrontations.

Resolution Through Police-Mediated Settlement

Despite the initial confrontation and viral outrage, both parties eventually reached a settlement following police intervention. The incident sparked significant public discussion about road safety, legal accountability, and appropriate responses during traffic disputes.

Authorities continue investigating the matter, examining video evidence and witness statements to determine the precise sequence of events and potential violations of law. The case underscores the challenges law enforcement faces when dealing with conflicting accounts of public altercations that quickly escalate into viral sensations.
