Ranchi Police's 2025 Drug Haul: Rs 14.8 Cr Seized

In a massive crackdown on narcotics, the Ranchi district police have announced the seizure of contraband substances worth nearly Rs 15 crore during the year 2025. The annual report card, released on Friday, highlights a record recovery under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act, marking the district's most significant haul to date.

Record-Breaking Narcotics Haul

The police recovered over 6,000 kilograms of "doda," a dry residue derived from poppy pods used as a narcotic. This single seizure, valued at over Rs 9 crore, stands as the highest recovery of narcotic substances in Ranchi district from January 1 to December 31, 2025. However, the crackdown extended far beyond doda.

The force also confiscated a substantial quantity of other drugs, including:

  • 1 kg of brown sugar worth over Rs 2 crore.
  • 22.4 kg of opium valued at Rs 1.12 crore.
  • 119 kg of Ganja worth more than Rs 59.9 lakh.

Furthermore, the police intercepted a large consignment of prescription drug abuse, recovering 15,003 bottles of prohibited cough syrups worth Rs 1 crore and 234 prohibited capsules

Widespread Arrests and Poppy Destruction

The enforcement actions led to a significant number of legal cases and arrests. A total of 87 cases were registered under the NDPS Act, resulting in the arrest of 156 accused individuals. The total value of all narcotic substances recovered in 2025 stands at a staggering Rs 14,84,82,690.

In a parallel offensive against the source of narcotics, the police undertook a major eradication drive. Throughout the year, they destroyed 2582.67 acres of illegal poppy cultivation. This action led to the registration of 93 cases and the arrest of 25 accused persons connected to the plantations.

Action Against Organized Crime and Theft

The police's annual performance was not limited to narcotics. The force also targeted organized criminal networks and property crimes. Authorities arrested 44 individuals linked to various organized crimes and recovered a cache of weapons from their possession, including:

  • Nine pistols
  • 52 rounds of live cartridges
  • Eight country-made pistols

In cases of vehicle theft, the police arrested 137 people for two-wheeler thefts and 21 individuals for four-wheeler thefts. For snatching cases, 29 individuals were apprehended. From the accused in these theft and snatching incidents, police recovered 52 mobile phones, four gold chains, nine grams of gold, nine vehicles, and Rs 13,000 in cash.

The comprehensive report card for 2025 underscores a year of intense and multi-pronged law enforcement activity by the Ranchi police, aiming to dismantle both the supply chains of narcotics and other criminal enterprises operating within the district.
