Range Rover crashes into Aadesh Shrivastava statue in Mumbai

In a shocking Sunday morning incident, a luxury Range Rover SUV lost control and crashed into a road divider in Mumbai's upscale Lokhandwala area, causing significant damage to a statue honoring the late music composer Aadesh Shrivastava. The Versova police have registered a case against the unidentified driver for rash and negligent driving following the accident that occurred at approximately 8:42 am.

Incident Details and Police Investigation

The accident took place near the Lokhandwala complex in Andheri West, where the speeding Range Rover first hit the divider before colliding with the memorial statue of the beloved composer. According to police statements, CCTV footage from the area shows Anivesh Shrivastava, the younger son of the late composer, standing near the damaged vehicle with another person shortly after the crash occurred.

Police officials revealed that the luxury vehicle is registered under a Delhi-based car dealership, which had subsequently sold it to an auto agent named Asif. "We have contacted Asif, and once he comes, then it will be clear who is the owner of the car," stated an investigating officer involved in the case.

Eyewitness Accounts and Current Status

A local vegetable vendor who witnessed the accident confirmed that two individuals were inside the vehicle at the time of the incident. Both occupants exited the Range Rover immediately after the collision, according to police accounts. Alert residents of the area noticed the damaged statue and vehicle and promptly informed the authorities.

Senior Inspector Deepsikha Vare of Versova police station provided crucial details about the ongoing investigation: "It is not clear who was driving the car at the time of the accident. But we have registered a case against an unknown person for rash and negligent driving. No one was injured, and during the investigation, we will verify who was behind the wheel at the time of the accident."

Remembering Aadesh Shrivastava's Legacy

The damaged statue commemorates Aadesh Shrivastava, a renowned music composer who began his career in the 1980s and created memorable scores for numerous Bollywood films. His notable works include music direction for popular movies such as Kanyadaan, Major Saab, Chalte Chalte, Baghban, Apaharan, and Rajneeti. The composer's contributions to Indian cinema had made him a respected figure in the entertainment industry, justifying the memorial erected in his honor.

As the investigation continues, authorities are examining all available evidence, including the CCTV footage, to identify the driver responsible for the accident. The case highlights ongoing concerns about rash driving in Mumbai's busy streets and the importance of road safety measures to prevent such incidents involving both public property and memorial structures significant to the city's cultural heritage.
