Red Fort Blast: Key Details of the Investigation
A preliminary investigation into the explosion near Delhi's historic Red Fort has revealed a critical detail: the Hyundai i20 car, identified as the source of the blast, had been stationed at a nearby parking lot for more than three hours before it was driven away. This development has become a central focus for the multiple security agencies now working on the case.
CCTV Footage Tracks Vehicle Movement
According to official sources, closed-circuit television footage provides a precise timeline of the vehicle's presence. The car was seen entering a parking area adjacent to the Red Fort at 3:19 pm on Monday. It subsequently exited the same location at 6:48 pm. A source mentioned that the CCTV footage indicates there was heavy traffic when the vehicle departed from the parking lot.
Officials are meticulously examining this footage with a primary objective: to identify the occupant or occupants who were inside the car during this period. The effort to put faces to this act of terror is currently a top priority for the investigation teams.
Multi-Agency Probe and Forensic Examination
In response to the incident, a massive investigative machinery has been set into motion. Delhi Police has confirmed that multiple teams from its elite Special Cell and Crime Branch, along with the National Investigation Agency (NIA), have been roped in.
These teams are tasked with a crucial job: tracing the complete route of the Hyundai i20 before it arrived at the parking lot near the Red Fort. An officer involved in the probe stated, "We are analysing footage from nearby roads and toll barriers to map the full movement of the car."
Simultaneously, forensic teams and bomb disposal experts have been called to the scene to conduct a thorough examination of the charred remnants of the vehicle. Their analysis is expected to provide clues about the type of explosive used and the mechanism of the blast.
High-Level Political Oversight
The blast has garnered attention at the highest levels of the government. Union Home Minister Amit Shah is personally monitoring the situation. An official spokesperson from the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) confirmed that Shah has "obtained details of the situation from the Delhi Police Commissioner and other senior officials present at the site."
Earlier, Delhi Police Commissioner Satish Golchha had indicated that the car had multiple occupants, adding another layer of complexity to the manhunt. The investigation remains active and fluid, with authorities not ruling out any possibilities as they work to piece together the events leading up to the explosion.
