The parents of the RG Kar Medical College and Hospital rape-murder victim have leveled serious allegations against the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), claiming that the agency's lawyer coached them on what to say in court and discouraged them from raising certain issues.
Allegations in Sealdah Court
Appearing in Sealdah court on Friday, the victim's father alleged that CBI officials and lawyers instructed the family to remain silent on certain matters during the investigation. The allegations surfaced after the CBI submitted a status report before the court, which revealed that investigators had examined call records of police officers and hospital officials connected to the case.
Demand for Arrest of Former MLA and Others
Earlier, on May 13, the victim's parents moved the Sealdah court, seeking the arrest of former Panihati MLA Nirmal Ghosh, chairman Somnath Dey, and their neighbor Sanjib Mukhopadhyay. During the hearing on Friday, counsel for the victim's family urged the court to bring these three individuals under the ambit of the investigation. The family questioned how the CBI had excluded them from the probe without conducting any inquiry.
The CBI, however, informed the court that no written complaint had been lodged against the three individuals. The victim's mother stated, "Everyone who was present at the crime scene is culpable." She also questioned the role of senior doctor Sumit Roy Tapadar, alleging that he covered the body with a blanket after noticing that it was unclothed.
Background of the Case
The RG Kar Medical College and Hospital rape-murder case has been a matter of intense public scrutiny. The victim, a young woman, was found dead under suspicious circumstances, leading to widespread protests and demands for justice. The CBI took over the investigation from local police following allegations of mishandling.
The victim's parents have consistently sought a thorough investigation and the arrest of all those involved. Their latest allegations against the CBI add a new layer of complexity to the case, raising questions about the impartiality of the investigation.
The court is expected to hear further arguments on the matter in the coming days.
